SILAS

I felt her soul reaching for me. Fate wasn’t wrong. She was my Serenity.

But Daisy wasn’t wrong either. We needed to forge our own path to becoming true mates. I’d seen what blind love did. I’d felt the consequences of it, even if I didn’t know for a hundred years how their love had hurt me.

My mother might still be alive today if it hadn’t been for the desperate bid of fate to throw her and my father together for all eternity. I might have a soul.

I rolled us both so Daisy lay across my body and not stuck to the 5th century Arthurian table we’d almost broken in our lust-filled fucking. The knights would have understood the sacrifice for a fair maiden. Or rather a fair vixen. Daisy was a tiger in the sheets. Or, err, on the table.

“Silas,” she said, looking up at me with a wiggle, her tongue started out of her mouth and then ran across her incisors. “Now that we’ve exchanged blood, am I... a vampire?”

Immersed in the warmth of our shared moment, her questions caught off guard. I reached out and gently tucked a stray curl behind her ear. “No, love. If you were any other average human, yes. The exchange of blood would have turned you. But because you’re a Serenity, you are now immortal.”

“Even though I didn’t share my soul with you?” A mix of emotions flash through her eyes, and I hoped that she didn’t regret not yet sharing her soul with me.

“Yes. You were born a Serenity, although I think you are indeed even more than that. If any vampire had ever tried to turn you, it wouldn’t have worked.” The very thought of another vampire anywhere near her made me want to go dark side and murder everyone I’ve ever known. That probably wasn’t healthy. “But make no mistake, you are my Serenity, and no one else’s. You belong to me, and I belong to you, and nothing can ever take that away from us.”

“Good to know.” With a glint in her eye, she asked, “So I’m immortal now? Did it make me more beautiful? You know, like in the movies and books?”
